Yet, these corporations face growing competition from independent miners and adventurers scattered across the moons of Jupiter.
A new breed of mutants is developed specifically for interstellar travel, engineered to survive prolonged hibernation and the stress of founding a new world with nothing but a single starship’s worth of resources. These pioneers gather on the Jovian moons, awaiting the completion of their vessel.
The epoch ends in cataclysm: the entire surface of Luna (Earth’s Moon) collapses into a black hole, shattering all established trade routes in the Solar System. In the chaos, the interstellar ship finally departs for Proxima Centauri, its mutant crew sleeping in stasis.
We can visualize this period as fogskin: the mutants of Oceania bear wrinkled, hairless skin—an adaptation from naked mole rat genes to withstand cosmic radiation—and they often appear wet, obsessed with aquatic sports and life by the water. The lunar surface itself is shrouded in fog-like dust, stirred by every movement and electrostatically clinging to buildings and machines, giving the Moon a perpetually ghostly haze.
